The thing that baffles me, and I suppose many others out there is how did or ancestors managed to survive all those years with no proper shelters, nor any of the amenities we are now in possession of. While there are quite a number of reasons behind this, a crucial part of it all was the way they ate. The diet of our Paleolithic ancestors is beginning to take a swing around health-conscious people nowadays, and the best thing about it is you do not have to let go of protein, because eggs and lean meat are central to it, but there is no room for any dairy products, salt, sugar, processed oils, or coffee.
Great things start with small steps, so I thought the best way to start my shift to a Paleo diet would be by making some paleo hotcakes. Among a number of scrumptious pancake recipes online I was surprised to find there were so many for paleo hotcakes.
The key to preparing a paleo pancake is replacing the regular all-purpose flour for almond flour, coconut flour, or tapioca flour.
And of course, pancakes wouldn’t be as tasty without milk. Luckily, though, paleo dieters can enjoy one of the many non-dairy kinds of milk, almond, coconut and soy milk.
But, when it comes to replacing sugar, not everything is that straight forward. There have been many discrepancies in people’s theories on what sweeteners are unprocessed. The thing you can’t go wrong with is raw honey. But you can just as easily opt for agave, coconut sap, stevia, molasses, or grade B maple syrup.
And last but certainly not least, consider replacing refined oil for ghee or coconut oil.
Pancake Recipes, Toppings, and More
I found the best recipe Ideas on https://www.mygreatrecipes.com/collection/pancakes/ Let’s say the Paleo Buttermilk Pancakes. These grain, gluten, and dairy-free hotcakes are every bit as tasty as they are easy to prepare. Nothing too complicated, I mean how complicated a pancake recipe can be? J
The Berry Skillet Pancake (Grain Free, Paleo) is also a must try! Tasty, soft and decadent, and blueberries containing! Why the exclamation mark? Well, because not only is this pancake paleo, but the blueberries enhance its antioxidant power and give it a tanginess that keeps you coming back for more.
As for the toppings on your paleo pancakes, naturally you can go for all sorts of fruits. Berries are my favorite, but you can go for apples, pears or even pomegranate to taste. Grade B maple syrup and honey are a great choice as well.
Go ahead and whip yourselves a batch of paleo pancakes. Even if you are not convinced that this way of eating is what you need, you should always give new things a try. Who knows, maybe a pancake bite will convince you that paleo is the best way to go!
