I have married into a family of foodies, and not being a foodie myself, and not being a particularly good cook either, I found it a bit difficult to adjust at the beginning. No, we are not living with my in-laws, nor do they live across the street like the family in Everybody Loves Raymond, but every now and then they visit us. Now, It’s in days like those that I find myself freaking around over what to prepare, how am I going to prepare it and are they going to like it. But just the other month I came across MyGreatRecipes, the food site that is bound to become any girl’s best friend, and sure enough at least some of my struggles were over.
From Cooking Zero to a Pancake Hero
Since my in-laws usually visit in the mornings, I decided to go over the Easy Pancake Do-it Yourself Recipes to find the perfect solution for such occasion. I must admit I was contemplating of preparing alcohol-infused pancakes to make everyone a bit more comfortable. Just for a moment…then I decided not to take the risk and play safe.
Undoubtedly the easiest and quickest recipe I found was the Dad’s three ingredient pancakes. Now these pancakes are a bit less fluffy than the regular American pancake, but it’s what makes them unusual, and after the first time my nephew tried them, I found out it’s probably what makes them a child’s favorite. Yes, contrary to expectation (one would think children love fluffy pancakes), my nephew enjoyed these pancakes and I quote “more than any pancake mom has ever prepared”.
Make up Pancakes
Now that I had a reputation to keep up with, and that was the one of making very tasty pancakes, I had to come up with a bit more complex recipe. But at the same time I had to make it up to my sister-in-law (let’s be honest it’s not the best feeling in the world to find out that your kid prefers his auntie’s pancakes to yours), so I decided to prepare pancakes with her all time favorite combination: apples and cinnamon. The Apple and Cinnamon Pancake Recipe was a huge hit with my family, especially my sister-in-law, she said that now she knows why Tommy loved my pancakes. She said that she had never tasted a pancake so moist and so decadent in her life! (Now how’s that for a complement!).
The pancake secret revealed
Alas, I had to give my secret out, so I told Mary about the web page I had found. She smiled contently, both because she was pleased I shared my secret with her, and because she was now certain that without my app’s help I wouldn’t have prepared something better than hers. Nevertheless, we decided to prepare the Blueberry Buttermilk Pancakes with Blueberry Maple Syrup together and have everyone around for a nice family breakfast. I can’t tell you how happy my mother-in-law was, her ugly duckling (in terms of cooking) has returned as a big white swan (with a little apron on it, J). We spent the afternoon together, and that evening hubby told me he was really proud of me, all the more reason to start using the web for more than just pancake recipes.
